Kanye West Interview: Slavery Was A Choice!

A few days after provoking the controversy by publicly supporting Donald Trump, Kanye West again created the scandal, explaining that he believes slavery was a choice. He then explained on Twitter.

The American rap star Kanye West, already a target of criticism since he gave strong support to Donald Trump, has created controversy Tuesday by calling in an interview the slavery of "choice". "We hear about slavery that has lasted 400. For 400 years it's like a choice," said the Chicago rapper in an interview at the TMZ celebrity news site on the occasion of the release next of his two new albums. Kim Kardashian's husband, who is not shy about media coverage, has developed: "We are in a mental prison, I like the word prison because slaves are too tied to blacks". After the outcry provoked on social networks by his comment, he reacted on Twitter, his favorite medium.

"Slavery was a choice"

These are the comments he openly made in the columns of TMZ:

"We hear about a slavery that lasted 400 years ... Four hundred years, so much time seems like a choice in my opinion. I mean, You were there for 400 years and it's all of y'all. It's like we're mentally imprisoned." " - he says

Unexpected remarks for a subject of the most taboos on the other side of the Atlantic and who will not fail to set fire to the powder. The journalist TMZ Van Lathan did not hesitate to cut the rapper and answer him in full filming.

Aware of the bad buzz he provoked, Kanye quickly grabbed Twitter to clarify his position. He explained that he was not talking about the slave trade or the triangular trade, but about "modern slavery", this new form of "mental" slavery. Something he already mentioned in his song "New Slaves" from the album Yeezus. It is still hard to believe because of the "400 years" deliberately mentioned, but ...

"The reason why I brought up the 400 years ago is because we are not mentally imprisoned for another 400 years. We need free thought now. Even the statement was an example of free thinking It was just an idea"

Whatever Kanye really meant, the controversy continues to grow. He who announced that he would release a new album open and unifying (allegedly entitled Love Everyone), he will have to do more than good music to engage in a sustainable way with the world. Especially if he really wants to earn a place in the White House in 2024.
