The shock video of rapper Childish Gambino, who questions the American society on his relationship to racism, weapons, violence and consumption, crossed the threshold of 100 million views this Sunday, just over seven days after his on-line.

Only four music videos reached this symbolic mark in less time: "Gentleman" of South Korean singer Psy (3 days), "Look What You Made Me Do" Taylor Swift (3 days), "Hello" Adele (4 days) and "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus (6).

Shot in a giant shed, the video of "This is America" as become a social phenomenon, reviewed endlessly on social networks.

With its cryptic lyrics and multiple references, the 4-minute message is the subject of thousands of interpretations by Internet users who seek to decode the smallest details.

The video features Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino, personifying a character sometimes cheerful, sometimes violent, with a permanent tension underlying. In particular,  at the beginning of the video, he is seen shooting a shackled and seated man in the back of the head, and later slaughtering ten members of a gospel choir with a burst of Kalashnikovs.

In an interview with Fox TV reporter Chris Van Vliet, directed during the promotion of the movie "Solo: A Star Wars Story", Donald Glover refused to decrypt the content of his video. "I dont think it's my place to do that. I Think it's something that should be just out there.. you know... it's for the people."

Internet users have seen in the Video a denunciation of gun violence, and others describes it as a criticism of the American penal system and the police abuses, but also historical reminders to slavery, segregation and racism.
