Donald Trump uses "Happy" Song, Pharrell Williams Threatens To Sue Him

Presidents are not above the law and Donald Trump has just been reminded. Pharrell Williams did not appreciate that the US head of state uses his song Happy at his meetings without his permission, let alone a few hours after the shooting of Pittsburgh, which killed 11 people in a synagogue. So he put Donald Trump on notice, asking the President of the United States not to use his “Happy” tube at his meetings, as relays CNN.

“Pharrell has not, and will not, grant you permission to publicly perform or otherwise broadcast or disseminate any of his music,” reads the letter from the R&B star’s lawyer Howard King.

“On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist’, you played his song Happy to a crowd at a political event in Indiana,” the letter continues. “There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose.”

Without prior agreement, the public use of the piece is in fact a violation of copyright. Pharrell Williams' lawyers have warned the president of the United States of possible lawsuits. As a reminder, this is not the first time that Donald Trump uses music without permission at his meetings: the Rolling Stones, Adele, or Queen have already complained.
